Talkin’ ‘Bout iGod

Yeah, maybe “iGod” seems a little bit of an odd way to approach this for some people… but it seems to work fine for us here. Monday we focus on ourselves as individuals. Personality. Talents. Perspectives. Conformity. Creativity. Originality.

A whale showed up on the shores of the lake for the morning prayer service, and… spit out Jonah. THAT got people’s attention. Jonah (Alex Robinson) shared his story, gave some straight-talk advice, and then started walking away toward Ninevah. No whales were harmed in the making of this experience.

Keith, Patrick, Mary and Bonnie gave us a great presentation. Keith hosted the mock style show, and the other three came down the catwalk, showing us style, originality and personality by wearing, well, khaki and white. All three of them. The judges (Tricia, Maria, and Alex) didn’t score them well at all for that. So, Keith sent them out for a clothing change, so they could try again. They came back with much more colorful and original outfits, letting their inner “i” hang out, so to speak.

Patrick lets his \"i\" hang out

The following quiz show and the small-group questions and activities continued to build the day.

After lunch, we sang songs about food. Mostly about bananas. I guess you had to be there, but we enjoyed it.

The workshops in the afternoon covered a range of things: beading, liturgical music, dance, the high-ropes and team-building course, self-defense, Canonization of the Bible, Fire Management, the Matrix Revealed, training for lectors and extraordinary ministers of the Eucharist. A lot to choose from!

Fr. Larry commissions Lectors and Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist

At the evening Mass, Fr. Larry gave us a pointed homily about living up to our potential without falling prey to the lies that tear us down.

And, the night concluded with a high-energy campfire, complete with silly songs, elephant jokes, great skits, and chewing gum. But that’s a story we’re out of time for right now. Look for more later, including photos from Monday’s activities!
