Lean on Me
Tuesday we focused on relationships—with parents, siblings, friends and even boyfriend/girlfriends (that’s where the Fire Management workshop helps). The day began with beautiful weather, although perhaps a bit cold for anyone not wearing at least a sweatshirt and long pants.
As part of the scheme of things, the students had a choice of two different morning prayer services, one in a traditional Morning Prayer (Lauds) format (with music), and another in a praise & worship format. At each service, a speaker reflected on the scripture and the general theme of the day. At the one service, Renee gave a powerful reflection on how her friends pulled her through some extremely difficult times of circumstances beyond her control, and how she had been able to help a friend by going beyond the call of duty when there was a serious crisis. George shared a powerful faith story at the other service.
After breakfast, Renee, George, Michelle and Noelle gave a presentation that opened with humor, and got quickly to the point. They each shared about how issues in their relationships had been resolved, and how that changed them.
The morning time with our DYMO church family groups helped many of the students open up a bit more and build trust among each other. Prayer partner time again, before we had lunch. Tuesday was Gabby’s birthday (a camper), as well as Olga’s birthday (Pinewood kitchen staff, from Belarus, if I heard correctly). So we celebrated in style, with the whole room singing Happy Birthday to the both of them. Gabby was showing off her chocolate cake later. Yum. Oh, and we passed the fire drill.
In the afternoon, we continued with the workshop we began the day before. The high-ropes people went to the climbing wall, and the wall people went to the ropes, but pretty much a continuation. Here’s a shot of the musicians at their practice. Well, posing for the camera, but during practice, at least.
Before Mass, the dance workshop folks performed what they had prepared for “I Can Only Imagine”, a powerful song accompanied by a wonderful dance.
To wind up the evening, we celebrated the day with Cabin Olympics. Many silly games, good competition, and a rousing good time. Here’s a shot of a two cabin teams competing… and the girls are winning by a large margin. The winner at the end of the night… Chippewa Cabin (one of the guys’ cabins).
